Getting all Nautical

Peggy’s Cove Boutonniere

If I ever got married again…to the same man…(because I love him so!) I would want a nautical wedding.  The sky, the ocean (or the lake or river for that matter), the smell…the overall feeling, not to mention the decor possibilities!  I have been obsessed with most things nautical for a very long time.  I have always been drawn to the water for some reason, and it is a dream of mine to own a sailboat…the beautiful natural wood ones that are like tiny pirate ships.  I want to live near water, and I want my home to have that seaside cottage feel.  That’s where I would feel just at home.

I was so inspired by these things last year that I created a few nautical pieces for my shop.  I decided to go for the subtle colours rather than the bold yellows and blues that are so often found in nautical themes.  This fit in to my shop a lot better as well, and I felt as though I was creating something that is seldom seen.  With my Peggy’s Cove set (named after my love for the cove) I wanted to still maintain that rustic feel that I love so much while capturing the feel of the ocean at the same time.  I wanted to include yellows, but opted for the softer peachy/sandy brown instead.  This gave the set an earthier feel.  I then created a bouquet for the sailor at heart, the MacAskill Bouquet (of course named after  Nova Scotia’s well-known photographer W.R MacAskill).  My goal here was to create something a little more sleek in design than the Peggy’s Cove, but still offering the country rustic feel with its brown burnt flower edges.  Overall I was pleased with these nautical themed creations.
